Asparagus Casserole

 

1-½      C Waverly crackers crumbled

½         C butter

3          10 oz. pkgs. frozen asparagus

4          T butter

3          T flour

1-1/2    C milk

1          5 oz. jar Old English cheese

½         C slivered almonds

 

Melt  ½ C butter and mix with cracker crumbs; set aside.  Cook asparagus until tender and drain.  Make a cheese sauce by melting the additional butter, blending in flour, then adding milk and cheese.  Cook until cheese has melted.  Butter a shallow casserole dish.  Sprinkle with 1 cup of buttered crumbs.  Arrange asparagus on top.  Sprinkle with almonds.  Pour cheese sauce over the top and sprinkle with remaining crumbs.

 

Bake in 350 degree oven for 25-30 min. until sauce is bubbling.
