Melt in the Mouth Caramels
1 C butter or margarine (2 sticks)
1 lb. light brown sugar (2 cups = 1 pound)
1 dash salt
1 C light corn syrup
1 15 oz. can sweetened condensed milk (Eagle Brand)
1 t vanilla
Melt butter in 3 qt. saucepan. Add brown sugar and salt. Stir well. Stir in corn syrup and mix well. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Cook and stir over medium heat until candy reaches soft ball stage (245 degrees). Remove and stir in vanilla. Pour in buttered 9” x 9” x 2” pan. Cool. Cut and wrap individual pieces in waxed paper.
