Hot Cross Buns

 

¾     C scaled milk

1/3    C margarine

¼     C sugar

1      t salt

2      eggs, beaten

½     t vanilla

3-1/2 C flour

1      pkg. dry yeast

¼     C cold water

¾     C raisins

¾     t cinnamon

1/8    t allspice

 

        Heat milk, margarine, sugar and salt in small saucepan.  Put 1-1/2 cups flour in large mixing bowl, add 1 pkg. dry yeast, blend.  Add contents of saucepan plus ¼ C cold water.  Add beaten eggs.  Beat 1//2 min. at low speed.  Then beat 3  min. at high speed.  Stop mixer and add spices and floured raisins.  Add vanilla.  Add more flour, a little at a time, for a soft dough.  Knead 2 – 3 min. Put in greased bowl.  Let stand in warm place for an hour and a half or two until doubled in bulk.  Knead 2 min. Let stand in warm place for an hour and a half or two until doubled in bulk again.  Cut into quarters.  Cut each quarter into 4 pieces.  Shape each piece by tucking the ends under and put into a 10” x 14” greased cookie sheet.  Let stand in warm place for an hour and a half or two until doubled in size.  Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15 min.

 

Icing:

 

1      T milk

¼     t vanilla

¾     C milk

 

 

Mix well and pour over hot cross buns in an cross design.
